UOC programme for professional athletes
With the aim of helping UOC student-athletes reconcile their academic activity with the demands of competitive sports, we have created the UOC Support Programme for Competitive Athletes, in collaboration with UFEC (Union of Sports Federations of Catalonia), CAR (High Performance Centre in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona), Bepro Foundation, CSD (Spanish National Sports Council), AFE (Association of Spanish Footballers), AJFS (Association of Futsal Players), AJFSF (Association of Women’s Futsal Players), FUTPRO (Association of Professional Footballers), Futbol Club Barcelona, RFEDI (Royal Spanish Winter Sports Federation) and FUTPRO (Asociación de Futbolistas Profesionales).
The programme will accompany competitive sports students throughout their academic life at the UOC, giving them the necessary support in the academic aspects that we understand may be affected by their sporting activity.
The students who take part will enjoy a catalogue of academic adaptations and a tutor of complementary support of what they already have assigned.
The UOC has developed a programme to support elite athletes in collaboration with the Sports Federation Union of Catalonia (UFEC), Sant Cugat High Performance Centre, the BEPRO Foundation, Consejo Superior de Deportes and Spanish Footballers Association.
The programme aims to help UOC students who are elite athletes combine their studies with their sporting pursuits.
We offer support relating to academic demands that could be problematic for students with major sporting commitments. This help is available for the full duration of their studies.
Students on the programme will receive a discount on the enrolment fee and have access to certain special accommodations so they can better balance their school responsibilities with their sporting career. In addition to their regular UOC tutor, they will be assigned a personal tutor to accompany them throughout their studies.
Discounts on the enrolment fee:
Competing athletes who are members of any of the following organizations will receive a 10% discount on their enrolment fee.
- UNEF - Sports Federation Union of Catalonia
- CAR - Sant Cugat High Performance Centre
- Fundació Bepro - Foundation that offers sportspeople in Spain grants and resources
- CSD - National Sports Council of Spain's Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport
- AFE - Spanish Footballers Association
- Futbol Club Barcelona
- RFEDI - Real Federación Española de Deportes de Invierno
If you are a competing athlete and want to take advantage of this enrolment discount, you should get in contact with the organization for your sport in order to obtain the corresponding code. Bear in mind that you may be asked to provide documentary proof of your association with the organization to which the code belongs.
If you are unable to apply the discount code during the enrolment process, you should mention to your tutor that you are a competing athlete. This way, even if the course has already started, you may still join the programme offering support to athletes such as yourself.
In the case of official programmes, the discount is approximate as it is the result of applying a discount of twenty-five percent (25%) to the price of the learning support services and learning resources (private enrolment price). These are enrolment items that are determined by the UOC's Board of Trustees and are not tied to the programme agreement signed with the ministry of the Government of Catalonia that is responsible for universities.
The applicable discount will be valid until graduation, as long as the student in question is still following the same degree programme.
The discount will only be applied to first enrolment credits and therefore will not extend to re-enrolment on courses.
- Flexibility as regards changes to the student's personal test schedule for justified reasons can be requested at Procedures / Adaptations to final tests for special needs
- The right to take the exam the following semester at no additional cost if attendance is not possible the same semester.
These students are assigned an extra tutor to advise him with the aim of making academic and sporting activities compatible. These extra tutors aim:
- To provide advice regarding adaptations and procedures that will help to combine academic and sporting commitments.
- To offer guidance regarding administrative processes relating to occupational changes such as those experienced at the end of a career competing in a sport, and about any other non-teaching aspects that may arise.
